16th Diamond: The Host

I realized this will be my first post for the year, and I have also not said "HAPPY NEW YEAR" to the readers so I'm going to say it now. HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!
Now, I'm gonna do a new format of blogging I think. I'm still trying a lot of different stuff and all, but for now, I'll try the left margin format. Oh, and this blog looks nicer in the "magazine" layout. *trust me*

Okay, moving on to the topic, it's The Host. No, I am not talking about the 2006 movie or any other movies entitled The Host (I googled and turns out, there's more than one movie entitled The Host), it's about the recently released based-on-a-bestselling-novel movie. Honestly, just how many movies use that tagline lately!

The whole movie experience was in a word, "average"? Not that I'm saying it's a bad movie or something. On the contrary, it has a deep meaning behind it. I liked how extraction needs to be done with kindness etc. Yes, EXTRACTION. Extraction of the alien of course, nothing more. If they don't do it with kindness, it'll die, well the human would die as well. And another thing, I liked how the ending is a happy ending, a satisfying happy ending. Everyone is with their loved ones. Yay!

To be honest, I think the movie should be longer considering the book is thicker and the plot feels like it's skipping a lot of important events, but moreover, the whole movie is beautiful. I love movies where they portrayed love. NOT the kissing, just plain love. Speaking of kissing...there's too many of them in the movie. Like seriously?! It's raining so the girl, boy, and lil' bro ran into the house, yet the girl and the boy stayed outside in the rain, WET, then kissed?!! Is that supposed to be fan-service or something? And Dear Jared, you just don't kiss a human girl whom you've just almost killed and just found out she's a human, you just don't. Gosh dude, what an impression.

Am I giving spoilers? Oh maybe I am...sorry

Long story short, I'm satisfied. A few days ago I had to choose between G.I.Joe and The Host, yet I foolishly choose G.I.Joe. I regret that decision I tell you. G.I.Joe really feels like a movie out of a game, an average game. You chase after the bad guy, bad guy not caught, blow stuff up, and somebody dies. Meh... The Host is not an action movie, it's a romance sci-fi yet with a little bit of action. Though I have to say, beating the bad "seeker" was way too easy...everything done in peace eh?? nice.

Don't compare this movie with the Twilight series, like seriously. I'm not saying Twilight is bad, it has the same essence, "Love", only that the movie ends up being fan-serving instead...

Saoirse Ronan did a really good job depicting two characters in one body. I mean, she convinces the audience that she is in fact talking to someone inside her head. Oh, but she did a lot of kissing, and I do  mean A LOT. But seriously, you can really talk to the camera, I salute you for that. Her character Melanie, is tough, while Wanderer/Wanda is soooo polite...

Ah Jared! The loverboy numero-uno. I was confused at first cause he protected Wanda (the alien in his gf's body) at first but later tried to kill her? Or maybe I wasn't paying attention. But I love how he's not into a rush when it comes to having sex, at least Melanie's memories said so in a scene. It was Melanie who's rushing *woah* But I still don't like how he kissed a girl whom he just met...that's rude....and he gets a slap for it. *Way to go Mel!* As for the actor, Max Irons, dude you're the only handsome guy in the movie...

And Ian, the guy I almost cried for out of pity. I didn't read the book so I thought Wanda is going to really leave him and I almost cried when they were out in the field, saying "I love you" and goodbyes, while kissing...dude u so pitiful at that scene. Though I have to say I love how he respects Wanda and Melanie and all, despite the fact that he strangled Wanda and almost killed her in the beginning of the movie...as for Ian O'Shea, I remember you from Percy Jackson :) You're old now. *no offence intended*

Overall rating, it was a 8/10. It's an enjoyable movie. But I have to warn you though, the first few moments in the movie was too slow-paced and there are unnecessary blood, and a lot of KISSING, don't forget the kissing. Not that I don't enjoy the kissing, I enjoyed some of them. SOME. Especially the ending. And the one where Melanie is gone and Wanda panics, trying to get her back by kissing. Okay I won't give you any other spoilers. Go watch the movie!

Without further ado, I shall take my leave
Thank you for reading and have a nice day!

"Choose your destiny"

Sincerely,
